Placer Board of Supervisors - Final Palisades Hearing

The final hearing to determine the future of the Resort at Palisades is on the horizon. Join MAP on November 19th (time TBD) at the North Tahoe Event Center to weigh in on Alterra Mountain Company’s proposed plans for Olympic Valley, which include 850 mixed-resort units and approximately 300,000 sf of commercial space, including a 90,000 sf Adventure Camp. From increased emergency evacuation times to exacerbating the housing crisis, the impacts of this development would be massive. Be there and tell Placer County that this is not the right approach to redevelopment of our beloved Olympic Valley.

TRPA Tahoe Living Working Group Community Workshop - North Lake Tahoe

Join the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) at the upcoming community workshop to learn about a new project to tackle Lake Tahoe's housing crisis while protecting and improving the environment.

 

Affordable housing is a significant challenge in our community, affecting many residents and workers. TRPA’s goal is to make housing more accessible and equitable for everyone while also improving the environment and climate resilience of the region. Share your thoughts on pressing issues in our community and contribute to the future of the Tahoe Basin! RSVP HERE  

Spanish interpretation services, activities for children, and a catered meal from Lupita’s Mexican Restaurant will be provided.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) is kicking off its next round of housing code updates with two upcoming community meetings. The first meeting will be held on Monday, September 9th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bijou Community School in South Shore. The second meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 10th, at 6:00 p.m. at Kings Beach Elementary School.  

This is an important opportunity to contribute to the basin-wide conversation around affordable workforce housing and policies that can be developed to support equitable access to housing while preserving and protecting our region's gem: Lake Tahoe.

Good Morning Truckee is a community forum that provides timely, relevant information on various topics. It is open to the public – everyone is invited. Good Morning Truckee is offered in person and recorded for viewing later if you cannot attend. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. The program starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. The ticket price is $10 for Truckee Chamber members and $15 for the general public. It includes a continental breakfast and a chance to win a door prize. New for 2024: Bring your business card that will serve as your door prize entry ticket.

 

For July's Good Morning Truckee, they are shifting gears to focus on emergency preparedness and wildfire prevention, two essential components in fostering community resilience, especially in rural areas like Truckee. Join us on July 16th to welcome James Blattler, Emergency Services Coordinator with the Town of Truckee; Anne Rarick, COAD Manager with Turning Point; and Eric Horntvedt, Wildfire Prevention Manager with Truckee Fire. MAP is the nonprofit highlight. Our Executive Director, Alexis Ollar, will present on the organization and provide a short community update on current work.

Mountain Area Preservation (MAP) will bring the Wild and Scenic Film Festival back to Truckee Tahoe for Earth Day 2024! MAP will host the festival at two separate events. The first event will be MAP’s custom film program on Friday, April 19, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Community Arts Center in Historic Downtown Truckee. The second event will be the Wild Child Kids’ program at the  Truckee Tahoe Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 20th, in the Village a Palisades, a FREE film program at the Earth Day Festival from 11 am to 5 pm.

Have you heard about the Town of Truckee’s effort to re-envision, revitalize, and strengthen the health and wellness of the Truckee River? The River Revitalization Steering Committee (R2SC) was born out of the Truckee 2040 General Plan, with the goal of tackling the opportunity to revitalize both West and East River Street along the Truckee River corridor adjacent to Historic Downtown Truckee while also bringing the health of the river into the forefront, along with access and potential relocation of industrial uses. R2SC meets the first Tuesday of every month at Truckee Town Hall Council Chambers, and the meetings are open to the public. The Feb. 13 workshop will include a presentation from the Planning Services Division on the status of the Housing Element Sites Rezone program, and to receive board direction to finalize the list of potential properties to be rezoned within the program.

Based on community input, the plan sets goals for achieving environmental restoration efforts and outlines land-use regulations in the Placer County portion of the Tahoe Basin.

Placer County is currently proposing amendments to Housing and Economic Sustainability within the TBAP. It is a large package of amendments, including modifications to certain building mass, parking, multi-family, and groundwater interception requirements, particularly in Town Centers. Tahoe Basin Area Plan Amendments

 Placer County Board of Supervisors will conduct a public hearing at the above place and time to consider: (1) adoption of a resolution to repeal and replace the Tahoe Basin Area Plan (TBAP) in its entirety to amend Parts 2.6, 2.7, 3.4, 3.5, 4.3, 4.7 and 8.2 pertaining to economic sustainability and housing, (2 ) adoption of an ordinance to repeal and replace the TBAP Implementing Regulations in their entirety to amend Chapters 1, 2 and 3 for refinements to policy and code sections aimed at supporting workforce housing, and (3) adoption of an ordinance amending Placer County Code Chapter 12, Article 12.08, section 12.08.020 to remove outdated zoning area references, clarify where Countywide street improvements are required, and add single-family detached dwellings as subject to street improvement requirements to align with Tahoe Basin Area Plan pedestrian mobility goals. The proposed TBAP amendments refine policy and code sections aimed at supporting workforce housing, as well as encouraging lodging and mixed-use redevelopment in Town Centers. The amendments focus on diversifying land uses across a variety of sectors, streamlining land uses and new businesses in the Town Centers, and providing additional opportunities for a greater variety of housing types, including workforce housing, throughout North Tahoe. The Tahoe Basin Area Plan encompasses the portion of Placer County within the jurisdiction of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, an area of 46,162 acres (72.1 square miles) and includes the communities of California North Stateline, Kings Beach, Tahoe Vista, Carnelian Bay, Dollar Point, Tahoe City, Sunnyside, Homewood, and Tahoma. Additionally, the Board of Supervisors will consider an Addendum and Errata to the previously certified Tahoe Basin Area Plan and Tahoe City Lodge Project Environmental Impact Statement / Environmental Impact Report prepared pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act.
